Stair lift cost
In the US, stair lift prices range from as little as $900 to as much as $15,000. The higher end price is for more difficult stair cases which have more bends and are longer. At the lower end are the reconditioned second hand stair lifts. Most of the cheaper ones are second hand stair lifts. Normally the cost includes the installation charge too. Due to the possibility of a sudden need of a relatively expensive piece of equipment like this, not everybody can afford to pay the cost of a stair lift up front.
For those who cannot afford to pay immediately, there are other means to finance the stair lift cost. There are some agencies that fund the cost of installation of a home stair lift. The agencies for the welfare of old people can help in this matter. But Medicare scheme does not cover the installation of a home stair lift. Health insurance companies allow it if, but only if it is specifically covered in your contract. A Veterans’ Association is another agency which helps out those among the veterans in installing a stair lift. Some banks are offering loans to finance such projects. Reverse mortgages are also available for this purpose. Many sellers of the home stair lifts are offering finance. Health insurance companies are providing finance for home stair lifts.
Reconditioned second hand stair lifts are coming at relatively low prices. They are actually reconditioned by the original manufacturers. however, the warranty of the lift is reduced because it has been used and the price is much lower than a new one. Stair lifts are available in many sizes and shapes. The stairs which have more curves will be provided with tailor made equipment. While going for a second hand stair lift it must be remembered that the life of a new stair lift is a limited one. It is about ten years. If a good part of the life of the new stair lift is used the reconditioned used one can be expected to last the rest of the period only. That is why the warranty is reduced for the used lifts. Availability of spare parts will be another problem for a reconditioned stair lift. If the second-hand stair lift is too old its spares may not be available after the expiry of a period. When new models arrive the manufacturers may stop producing spares for the older models after a time. Then the maintenance and repairs will become a problem.
If you are going for a new stair lift it is better to look for a reputed brand having a long history of manufacturing stair lifts. It is better to buy a battery operated stair lift rather than an AC lift. The AC stair lift will work only when the power supply is there. When there is a power cut, an AC operated lift cannot work. On the other hand, if you use a battery powered lift it works any time. When the lift is not in use, the battery can be recharged. Thus the battery operated stair lift gives you an uninterrupted service, even during times of blackout or disaster.
Old or new, a stair lift adds to the safety of the home.
